Why Would I Need Water Heater Repair?
The most common thing that affects water heaters is sediment buildup, especially as the water heaters get older. When water is heated, limescale and any other minerals, particularly calcium and magnesium, for along the sides of the tank and the burner. If these minerals are not filtered out of the water heater, they form a sediment barrier that will settle on the burner and seriously affect your water heater’s performance. The best way to keep your water heater safe? Call Fixya LLC for water heater inspection or water filtration!
In addition to inspecting for sediment buildup, you should check your water heater’s burner every now and then. The flame should be blue with yellow tips. If it appears more yellow-orange, this is a sign of incomplete burning which could lead to not only poor water heater performance, but also the production of deadly carbon monoxide! Don’t put your family at risk – if your water heater is not burning properly, call Fixya for water heater repair right away!
When Should I Replace My Water Heater?
Most hot water heaters will last around eight to 12 years. Once they’ve been around for this long, they start to lose their efficiency and become more prone to failure. And while most people wait until their water heater has catastrophically failed before shopping around for a replacement water heater, there are benefits to upgrading your unit before it dies!
Water heaters are among the top energy users in your home, in many cases accounting for as much as 25 percent of your home’s energy use. As they get older and less efficient, this number climbs even higher, and the units get more and more expensive to operate. Don’t wait until your hot water heater fails or becomes inefficient before you consider a replacement. Many options exist today that will not only keep your home running comfortably but also save you money.

Tankless Water HeatersTankless technology that saves you time.Never think about your hot water needs again: Innovative technology provides an endless supply of hot water whenever and wherever it’s needed – even for simultaneous uses at multiple fixtures. Showers and baths? Absolutely. Laundry and dishes? No problem. Prioritizing activities and scheduling hot water use is a thing of the past.
Save space with a compact design.Maximum output, minimum space: About the size of a small suitcase, a tankless water heater can be installed on any wall or in compact spaces. These wall-mounted units can be installed on the interior or exterior wall of the home to free up valuable space. Flexible installation: Small size allows for installation in non-traditional spaces such as crawl spaces and attics, making it perfect for use in any size home, including manufactured and modular homes. Save energy: By operating only when hot water is needed, and no storage tank to heat and reheat water, tankless technology helps save on energy and utility costs. The use of an electronic igntion means no standing pilot light that constantly uses energy. A smart investment: Increase your home’s value with premium technology, energy efficiency and an improved Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index score. Available energy efficiency rebates and tax credits offer the opportunity to help make your purchases more affordable. |
Water HeatersYou probably don't think about your water heater until a cold shower suggests you need a new one. How to choose? Storage tanks cost less but tankless heaters save energy by only heating the water you draw. Hybrid electric/heat-pump models and solar water heaters are two newer options.
Before you shell out hundreds for a storage-tank heater or thousands for a tankless or solar model, see whether your old water heater can be fixed. A corroded storage-tank model is history. But a leaky drain or pressure-relief valve or a burned-out heating element can often be fixed. Rule of thumb: Consider a repair if the labor cost (which warranties often exclude) averages less than $50 per year over the years left in the warranty. Otherwise, buy a new one, especially if the warranty has run out. Most storage-tank water heaters look alike on the outside. but paying a little more typically buys a better water heater. Those with longer warranties tended to have larger heating elements, thicker insulation, and thicker or longer corrosion-fighting metal anodes. Longer warranties were also a good indication of better quality for tankless water heaters. But their added complexity can mean more potential problems. Some tankless heater manufacturers shorten the warranty for units used with hard water and in multifamily homes. And most recommend service once a year by a qualified technician. Choosing the right capacity Most water heaters are sold on the basis of how many gallons they hold. For example, two to four people might use 80 to 85 gallons per day--enough for about three showers, one laundry load, running the dishwasher once, and turning on the faucet nine times. But the first-hour rating (FHR) for storage-tank water heaters and the gallons-per-minute rating (GPM) on tankless water heaters are more important, because they tell you how much hot water the heater can deliver during a set period. At Fixya we can calculate how much you'll need. |
